A living room or hallway floor in this grey plank has the look of weathered, sun-bleached boards. The grey is soft rather than cold, with the grain printed from real timber across thirty patterns, so the planks vary as real wood does.

The 200x1200mm plank comes six to a box, covering 1.44m². Lay it in a random stagger for a floorboard look or a herringbone for pattern. The manufacturer's specification lists it for floor use; its product name calls it a floor and wall tile.

Porcelain is dense and water-resistant, so the grey wood look can run from a hallway into a kitchen or bathroom. The manufacturer rates it for bathrooms, kitchens, conservatories, hallways and living areas, and for light commercial use.

Working out how many boxes

Measure the wall or floor in square metres, add 10% for cuts and breakages, divide by 1.44 and round up to the next whole box. Order everything you need in one go – shade can vary a little between production batches, and buying all your boxes together keeps the whole area from the same run.

Fitting notes

Use a flexible cementitious adhesive for porcelain and bed each plank fully. Stagger joints by a third of the plank length, not a half. Keep a 2-3mm joint and use a grey grout close to the tile colour. Mix planks from more than one box so the thirty grain patterns are spread across the floor.
