The Carron Centennial is a full square corner bath – 1500mm along each wall, with a sweeping curved front that measures 2100mm across the diagonal. It is the largest of Carron's corner baths by some distance, and at 570mm to the rim it sits noticeably deeper than the usual 540.

That depth and width give it a 407-litre capacity – more than double a standard bath. This is a bath to lie back in rather than a space-saver. Being symmetrical it has no hand, so there is nothing to get wrong on that front. It comes in Carron's standard 5mm acrylic with a 30-year warranty or Carronite with a 40-year warranty, and is made in Britain by Carron, whose manufacturing history goes back to 1759.

5mm acrylic or Carronite?

Worth thinking about on a bath this size. 407 litres is a great deal of water across a wide unsupported span, and a bath this large takes longer to fill and loses heat over a longer soak. Both points argue for Carronite here more strongly than on any other bath in the range.

The panel

The Centennial takes the 1500 x 570mm corner bath panel (02264 standard, 02265 Carronite), curved to follow the front of the bath. Note the 570mm height – the Centennial sits taller than Carron's other corner baths, so its panel is not interchangeable with a 540mm one. It is sold separately; match the panel finish to the bath finish.

Before you order

• Measure both walls of the corner. At 1500mm along each and 2100mm across the diagonal, the Centennial needs a genuinely large bathroom – mark it out on the floor before committing.
• Check your hot water. 407 litres is more than many domestic cylinders will deliver in one go. Worth checking what your system can actually supply before you buy a bath you cannot fill.
• Check the route in. This is a large, awkward shape – measure doorways, landings and any turn on the stairs before delivery day.
• Taps, waste and panel are sold separately.
• Think about the floor, seriously. Filled and occupied this bath approaches half a tonne, concentrated in a corner and away from supporting walls. On a suspended timber floor, have the joists checked by a builder before ordering rather than after.

Fitting tips

Install the bath with Carron's installation kit, levelled so the rim sits at 570mm – the height its panel is made to. Fill the bath with water before running the silicone seal along the walls, so the joint cures with the bath at its heaviest; on a bath this size that step matters more than usual, because the deflection between empty and full is greater. Take care getting both wall runs straight – on a corner bath any twist shows as a gap that is very hard to hide afterwards.
