Description

Kartell K-VIT Element Bath Filler – Chrome (TAP062EMJ)

The Kartell K-VIT Element range is angular and sharply drawn — a squared body with chamfered edges and a flat blade spout, in polished chrome. Kartell describe it as bringing "a flawlessly fresh look" with clean lines, and it is the crispest shape in the brassware catalogue: a good match for square sanitaryware and a room with straight edges elsewhere.

This is the bath filler: a deck-mounted tap that sits on the rim of the bath and fills it, with no shower function. Two square lever handles either side of a flat blade spout.

How long will it take to fill a bath?

Kartell publish flow figures for this tap, and on a bath filler they translate straight into waiting time:

Pressure Flow Approx. fill time
0.2 bar 14.4 l/min about 12 min
0.5 bar 19.5 l/min about 8 min
1.0 bar 26.5 l/min about 6 min

Based on roughly 165 litres to a comfortable level. Kartell do not publish figures above 1 bar.

This is a quick filler by the standards of the range. Even at 0.2 bar — the lowest pressure it is rated for — it manages 14.4 litres a minute, where some other Kartell bath fillers struggle to reach 4. If you are on gravity-fed plumbing and have been disappointed by a slow bath before, this one is worth a look.

Bath filler or bath shower mixer?

A bath filler (this one) just fills the bath. Choose it where you have a separate shower, or no shower over the bath at all.

The Element bath shower mixer adds a diverter, a handset on a hose and a wall bracket so you can shower over the bath. It is a step up in price and otherwise the same tap.

Before you order

This is a two tap hole deck-mounted filler, so it needs a bath drilled for two — the standard arrangement on most baths.

The tap measures 218.5mm across and sits on 180mm tap hole centres, which is the standard spacing on a British bath. Worth measuring yours before you order, because a bath drilled to a different spacing will not take it.

Bath taps use 3/4" BSP connections — larger than the 1/2" on basin taps — because a bath needs to fill in reasonable time. Check your existing tails, as swapping between sizes needs adaptors.

The waste is sold separately. A bath needs a waste and overflow set, which is not included — unlike the Element basin mixer, which comes with a click waste. Kartell's website lists a click waste against this tap, but a click waste is a basin fitting rather than a bath one, so treat that as a misprint and budget for a bath waste and overflow.

Water pressure

Kartell rate this tap suitable for low water pressure systems — it will run from as little as 0.2 bar. That means it works on a gravity-fed tank and cylinder as well as on mains, combi or unvented pressure.

Living with it

The ceramic disc cartridge with quarter-turn operation gives full flow from a small movement of the lever, and is far less prone to dripping than a washer tap.

Polished chrome wipes clean with a soft damp cloth, though a squared shape gives limescale more corners to settle into than a round one, so in a hard water area it pays to dry it off. What chrome will not take is abrasives: cream cleaners, scouring pads and strong limescale removers cut through the plating, and once it has gone dull it cannot be brought back.

The rest of the Element range

The range also includes a mono basin mixer with click waste and a bath shower mixer.
