The Kartell K-VIT Klassique range is traditional styling done without fuss — crosshead handles on a rounded body, in polished chrome, with ceramic HOT and COLD indices. Kartell call it "a brassware range with grace", and it is the one to pick for a period property, a cottage, or a bathroom where you want warmth rather than minimalism.

This is a pair of bath pillar taps: two separate taps, one hot and one cold.

Pillar taps or a bath filler?

Pillar taps are the traditional arrangement — two separate taps, no mixing. You fill with both running and mix in the bath.

On a period bathroom, particularly a roll-top, they’re the historically right choice and look considerably better than a modern single spout. Where convenience matters more, the Klassique bath filler delivers water already mixed from one spout.

Before you order

Check your bath has two tap holes at the correct centres. A bath drilled for a mixer usually has them closer together than a pillar pair needs.

Note the connection size. These take 1/2" BSP flexi hoses — the same size as basin taps, and smaller than the 3/4" that most bath taps use. That is confirmed on Kartell’s data sheet, so it is not a misprint. Two things follow: if your existing tails are 3/4" you will need adaptors, and the bath will fill a little more slowly than it would on 3/4" pipework.

The waste is sold separately.

Traditional look, modern mechanism

The thing that makes Klassique worth having over genuinely old taps: ceramic disc cartridges with quarter-turn operation. Traditional crosshead taps were the classic dripper, needing a new washer every couple of years. Ceramic discs don’t perish, so you get the period look without the period maintenance.

Water pressure

Suitable for low pressure systems, though on gravity-fed plumbing a bath will fill slowly whatever taps you fit.
