Description
Kartell K-VIT Oregon 1180 x 500mm Towel Rail – Chrome (ORE500-1200C)
Oregon is a designer towel rail from Kartell with a single square upright on one side and flat bars that are open at the other end, so towels slide straight on from the side instead of being threaded through. The twelve bars are set in four groups of three, with 160mm open gaps between the groups where folded towels can hang. This is the chrome version; it is also available in Textured Grey.
Chrome plating gives a bright, mirror-like finish that matches chrome taps, showers and accessories.

Is it the right size for your room?
At 1180mm tall and 500mm wide, Oregon suits most family bathrooms and en-suites. The textured grey version gives more heat than the chrome (2341 BTU against 1962 BTU) – a plated chrome surface gives off heat less readily than a painted one – so if heat output matters most, the grey is the stronger choice.
If it will be the only heat in the room, check its output against what the room needs – a BTU calculator will give you a figure from the room's size, windows and outside walls. Kartell quote the output at Δt60, a standard test temperature. Many modern boilers, and especially heat pumps, run cooler than that, so the heat you actually get may be lower than the figure shown.
Fitting
Oregon is supplied with everything needed to fix it to the wall. Valves are sold separately – see our towel radiator valves.
Both pipe connections are at the bottom of the single upright, only 100mm apart (the “tapping centres”), so the pipework comes up together at one side rather than at each end. That is very different from most towel rails, so if you are replacing an existing one, expect the pipes to need moving. The upright is held on wall brackets with its centre 52mm out from the wall; the upright and bars together are 40mm deep. Make sure the wall can take the weight once the rail is full of water: solid walls are straightforward, but stud and plasterboard walls need suitable heavy-duty fixings or a timber support behind the board.
Looking after the finish
Wipe over with a soft, damp cloth and dry. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach and limescale removers, which can damage chrome plating.
