Kartell K-VIT Texas Towel Rail – Anthracite (All Sizes)
Texas is a designer towel rail from Kartell, finished in matt anthracite. Instead of a traditional ladder, it has a row of flat, looped bars fixed to a single upright on one side and left open on the other, so towels slide straight on from the side rather than being threaded through. It is made from mild steel and plumbs into your central heating like any other towel radiator.
It comes in two heights, both 500mm wide – choose your size from the dropdown.
Sizes and heat output
| Size (H x W) | Code | Width | Height | Output (Δt60) | Approx. watts | Weight | Barcode (EAN) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 850 x 500mm | TEX850-500A | 500mm | 850mm | 1397 BTU | 409W | 13.25kg | 5055681440602 |
| 1300 x 500mm | TEX1300-500A | 500mm | 1300mm | 2111 BTU | 619W | 19.97kg | 5055681440619 |
Choosing a size
The bars are 60mm high and spaced 150mm apart, leaving plenty of room to hang a towel over each one. The taller 1300mm version gives about half as much heat again as the 850mm, and has room for more towels. The 850mm suits a cloakroom, a small en-suite, or a wall broken up by a window or basin.
If the towel rail will be the only heat in the room, check its output against what the room needs – a BTU calculator will give you a figure from the room's size, windows and outside walls. A towel rail draped in wet towels gives off less heat into the room, so it is worth allowing some margin.
Kartell quote the output at Δt60, a standard test temperature. Many modern boilers, and especially heat pumps, run cooler than that, so the heat you actually get may be lower than the figure shown.
Fitting
Texas is supplied with everything needed to fix it to the wall, and it can be installed either way round, with the open side of the bars facing left or right – so you can choose whichever side is easier to reach from the bath, shower or basin. Valves are sold separately; you will find matching ones in our towel radiator valves collection.
The two pipe connections are 80mm apart (the “tapping centres”), so check this against your existing pipework before you buy – if you are replacing an old towel rail, the pipes may need moving. The wall brackets are adjustable: the rail stands 155–170mm out from the wall at its deepest point, with the pipe connections 65–75mm out from the wall, which gives a little room to line it up with pipes that are already in place. Make sure the wall can carry the weight once the rail is full of water and towels: solid walls are straightforward, but stud and plasterboard walls need suitable heavy-duty fixings or a timber support behind the board.
Looking after the finish
Wipe over with a soft, damp cloth and dry. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach and strong bathroom cleaners, which can dull or mark a matt finish.
