Toro is a smart electric towel rail from Kartell: a classic ladder design with slim round 22mm bars between two 30 x 40mm uprights, arranged in groups with open gaps for folded towels. Across the top is a flat bar with three hooks, handy for a dressing gown or hand towel. This is the chrome version; it also comes in Matt Black, Brushed Brass, Brushed Nickel and Brushed Bronze.

Bright chrome suits almost any bathroom and matches chrome taps, showers and accessories.

It comes in three sizes – 800mm, 1200mm or 1500mm high, all 500mm wide. Choose your size from the dropdown.

Smart controls

Because it is electric, Toro does not need to be connected to your central heating – it works on its own, so you can have warm, dry towels at any time of year, even when the heating is off. The control panel on the upright lets you:

• Set the temperature between 30°C and 60°C
• Use the customisable timer so it only comes on when you need it
• Control it from your phone with the easy-to-use iNOW app

It has a dry heating element, which means the rail is not filled with water or oil – there is no liquid inside to top up or leak.

Fitting

Toro runs on a standard 230V supply and can be wired with the cable either exposed or concealed in the wall, so you can choose a neat hidden connection or a simpler surface installation. It is supplied with fixings, and mounts on round wall brackets that hold it about 111mm out from the wall.

Electric towel rails in bathrooms must be wired in line with the UK wiring regulations, which set out where electrical equipment can go in relation to the bath and shower. We recommend having it installed by a qualified electrician. Make sure the wall can take the weight: solid walls are straightforward, but stud and plasterboard walls need suitable fixings or a timber support behind the board.

Looking after the finish

Wipe over with a soft, damp cloth and dry to avoid water marks. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach and limescale removers, which can damage the chrome finish. Switch the rail off and let it cool before cleaning.
