Kartell K-VIT Klassique Mono Basin Mixer Chrome (TAP100KL)

The Kartell K-VIT Klassique range is traditional styling done without fuss — crosshead handles on a rounded body, in polished chrome. It's the range for a period property, a cottage, or a bathroom where you want warmth rather than minimalism.

This is the mono basin mixer, and it comes complete with a click waste.

Traditional look, modern mechanism

The thing that makes Klassique worth having over genuinely old taps: ceramic disc cartridges with quarter-turn operation. Traditional crosshead taps were the classic dripper, needing a new washer every couple of years. Ceramic discs don't perish, so you get the period look without the period maintenance.

The practical difference from a single-lever mixer is that two handles means setting hot and cold separately. Slower, but finer control. Some people much prefer it; others find it fiddly with wet hands. Worth knowing which you are before ordering.

Where it suits

Klassique pairs naturally with traditional sanitaryware — Kartell's own Astley range, or any pedestal basin with a period feel. Against a modern square basin the crossheads can look at odds, so it's worth thinking about the basin first.

Water pressure

Suitable for low pressure systems, so it works on gravity-fed plumbing — a tank in the loft and a hot cylinder — as well as combi and mains pressure. Useful, since the older properties this style suits are often exactly the ones on low pressure.
