Kartell K-VIT Kolt Mono Basin Mixer Brushed Nickel (TAP330KBN)

The Kartell K-VIT Kolt range pairs an angular tap body with a right-angle spout — squared-off, but with softly rounded edges rather than hard corners. This is the mono basin mixer in brushed nickel, and it comes complete with a matching waste.

Why brushed nickel

Brushed nickel is the quiet alternative to chrome — a softer, warmer grey without the mirror shine. It reads as considered rather than shouty, which is why it suits a scheme where you want quality metalwork that doesn't dominate the room.

Against brushed brass it's far less committal. Brass makes a statement and dates a bathroom to a moment; nickel is closer to chrome in temperament and will look current for longer. If you like the idea of brass but worry about living with it in ten years, nickel is the safer version of the same instinct.

On practicality, brushed finishes hide water spotting and fingerprints noticeably better than polished chrome, because there's no mirror surface to show them. Clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth; avoid abrasives and limescale remover, which will damage the brushed surface.

Will it work with my water pressure?

Yes, and better than most. Kolt needs only 0.2 bar — low even by low-pressure standards — so it works on gravity-fed plumbing in older properties as well as mains pressure.

Living with it

The ceramic disc cartridge with quarter-turn operation gives full flow from a small movement of the lever, and is far less prone to dripping than a washer tap.

The same tap in four finishes

Kolt is made in brushed nickel, polished chrome, matt black and brushed brass. Within the nickel range there's also a mini basin mixer, a hi-rise version for countertop bowls, a bath filler and a bath shower mixer. Kartell also make brushed nickel wastes and overflow covers to match.
