Kartell K-VIT Nero Curve Mono Basin Mixer Matt Black (TAP290CN)

The Kartell K-VIT Curve Nero range is the matt black version of Curve — a bold curved spout arcing out of a clean, slightly angular body. In black it reads as a deliberate design choice rather than something that blends in.

This is the mono basin mixer, and it comes complete with a matching black clicker waste — worth noting, because a chrome waste in a black basin spoils the effect and buying one separately costs around £25.

What the curve actually does

Beyond looks, an arced spout puts the outlet further forward over the bowl than a straight body of the same height — more room to get your hands under, and water landing nearer the middle of the basin than the back. The trade-off is that it needs more space in front of the tap hole, so on a very shallow basin the outlet can sit close to the front edge.

Living with matt black

The honest part. Matt black shows limescale and water spotting far more than chrome, particularly in a hard water area — white marks stand out against a dark surface where they'd disappear on a shiny one. It wants wiping dry after use to look its best. If nobody in the house will do that, the chrome Curve is the easier life for the same design.

Never use abrasive cleaners or limescale remover on matt black. The finish is a coating, not plating, and harsh chemicals will dull or strip it. Warm soapy water and a soft cloth is the whole routine.

Water pressure

Suitable for low pressure systems, so it works on gravity-fed plumbing as well as combi and mains pressure.

Living with it

The ceramic disc cartridge with quarter-turn operation gives full flow from a small movement of the lever, and is far less prone to dripping than a washer tap.
