A white stone-look porcelain in a 592x592mm rectified square. The colour is a soft, warm white with a faint natural stone print applied digitally, and the matt surface keeps it from looking shiny or clinical. It is the kind of pale, quiet floor that lets the rest of the room do the talking.

Because the edges are rectified the tiles sit tight together with a slim joint, which on a pale floor matters: there is less grout to darken over time. The format works in bathrooms, kitchens, hallways, living areas and conservatories, and it can go on indoor walls as well.

The matching Whidbey white ceramic wall tiles and relief decors share the same tone, so you can run a porcelain floor into ceramic walls without a colour step. Porcelain is dense and tough enough for a hallway. Three tiles in a box cover 1.05 square metres.

Working out how many boxes

Measure the wall or floor in square metres, add 10% for cuts and breakages, divide by 1.05 and round up to the next whole box. Order everything you need in one go – shade can vary a little between production batches, and buying all your boxes together keeps the whole area from the same run.

Fitting notes

Use a flexible porcelain adhesive with a full bed and back-butter each tile. A 2mm joint is possible with rectified edges, but only on a flat floor and with levelling clips. A white or very light grey grout keeps the look clean. Blend tiles from a few boxes and keep grout water clean to avoid marking the matt surface.
