Sold by the box – 5 tiles per box, covering around 0.90m². Each 300x600mm tile is 0.18m², so a box works out at roughly £52.33 per m² (£9.42 a tile). We only supply full boxes.

Carbon is a deep charcoal grey, a step lighter than black, with a polished face that reflects light and gives the colour depth. In a 300x600mm format it suits a feature wall behind a basin or a dark kitchen splashback.

Five tiles make a box covering 0.9m². The size takes a brick bond well, and because the edges are rectified the joints can be kept to 2-3mm so the wall reads as a single dark surface. It also works on floors in a straight stack.

The porcelain is full-bodied, so the carbon colour is consistent through the tile. The manufacturer rates it for walls and floors in bathrooms, kitchens, conservatories, hallways and living areas, in both homes and commercial spaces.

Working out how many boxes

Measure the wall or floor in square metres, add 10% for cuts and breakages, divide by 0.90 and round up to the next whole box. Order everything you need in one go – shade can vary a little between production batches, and buying all your boxes together keeps the whole area from the same run.

Fitting notes

A polished dark tile shows every smear, so keep the face clean as you go and wipe adhesive off at once. Bed it on a flexible cementitious adhesive, fully supported on floors. Dark grout at 2-3mm keeps the surface continuous. Dry-lay a row to balance the cuts at each end of the wall.
