Carron Urban Edge L-Shaped Shower Bath – White Gloss (All Sizes)

The Carron Urban Edge is a squared-off L-shaped shower bath – 842mm across the showering end, stepping down to 692mm along the bathing section. The lines are deliberately sharp and contemporary, with a flat rim and a crisp step, so it suits a modern bathroom better than a softer, rounded shower bath.

It comes in two lengths, each in left or right hand, and in Carron's standard 5mm acrylic with a 30-year warranty or Carronite with a 40-year warranty. You can add the matching QSS-2 screen as part of the same order. Made in Britain by Carron, whose manufacturing history goes back to 1759.

Left hand or right hand?

Stand facing where the bath will go. On a left hand Urban Edge the wide showering end is on your left; on a right hand it is on your right. The showering end is also the tap and waste end, so choose the hand that puts it where your shower valve and plumbing will be. A shower bath in the wrong hand will not suit the room – check it against your layout before ordering.

5mm acrylic or Carronite?

Worth thinking about on a shower bath. A bath you stand in flexes more than one you only sit in, so the extra rigidity of Carronite earns its keep here more than on a standard bath.

Choose your size

Weights are shown as 5mm acrylic / Carronite. Both sizes are 842mm wide at the showering end, 692mm along the bathing section, 420mm deep, and sit at 540mm to the rim.

Note the sizes. At 1575 and 1675mm the Urban Edge sits between the usual 1500, 1600 and 1700mm bath lengths, so measure your recess carefully rather than assuming a standard size will do – and if you are replacing an Urban Edge, check which of the two you have.

The screen

Use the Screen option to add Carron's QSS-2 shower bath screen (02347), a hinged chrome-framed screen whose outer panel folds back through 90 degrees. It is also sold on its own, alongside a fixed QSS-1 in chrome or black if you would rather nothing moved.

Panels for the Urban Edge

Carron list a front panel only for the Urban Edge – there is no end panel in the range. The front panel is shaped to follow the contour of the bath and is specific to the bath length, and one panel covers both the left hand and the right hand version.

Codes are shown as standard / Carronite. Match the panel finish to the bath finish, and the panel length to the bath length – the two are not interchangeable.

Before you order

• Check the hand. Decide which end the shower goes – see above.
• Measure the recess at the back, the middle and the front. The showering end projects 842mm from the wall, so check it clears doors, radiators and window sills.
• Order the Urban Edge panel. It is made for this bath and this length – a standard bath panel will not fit.
• Check the route in. Up to 1675mm long and 842mm wide at one end, the bath has to pass through doorways, round landings and up the stairs – measure any tight turn before delivery day.
• Taps, waste, shower and panel are sold separately.
• Think about the floor. Full to capacity these hold 245kg of water before anyone gets in, and a shower bath also takes someone's weight standing up.

Fitting tips

Install the bath with Carron's installation kit, levelled so the rim sits at 540mm – the height its panel is made to. Fill the bath with water before running the silicone seal along the walls, so the joint cures with the bath at its heaviest. Fit the screen once the seal has cured – it needs a solid wall to fix to, so plan for that behind the tiles.
