Kartell K-VIT Ottone Wall Mounted Basin Mixer – Brushed Brass (TAP425OT)
The Kartell K-VIT Ottone range is slim, round and minimal in brushed brass — cylindrical bodies, thin stick levers and no ornamentation. Kartell describe brushed brass as "the latest luxe style to take the interior design spotlight", and it is the warmest of the finishes they offer: a soft matt gold rather than a bright polished one.
This is the wall mounted basin mixer — the tap fixes to the wall above the basin rather than sitting on it.
Why wall mounted, and what it demands
Wall mounting leaves the basin or worktop completely clear, which looks striking and makes the surface far easier to wipe down. It suits a countertop bowl or a basin with no tap hole.
The trade-off is that all the plumbing has to be buried in the wall, and the concealed valve body has to be set at the right depth and height before the wall is boarded and tiled. That means deciding on this tap early — it is not a swap you can make later without opening up the wall.
Set the height so the spout clears the rim of your basin with room to get your hands under, and check it lands water in the middle of the bowl rather than the back edge. A stud wall needs noggins to fix the valve to; a solid wall needs chasing out. Neither is difficult, but both need doing before the finish goes on.
1/2" BSP flexi hoses and fixings are supplied.
Water pressure
Kartell rate this tap suitable for low water pressure systems — it will run from as little as 0.2 bar. That means it works on a gravity-fed tank and cylinder as well as on mains, combi or unvented pressure.
Living with it
The ceramic disc cartridge with quarter-turn operation gives full flow from a small movement of the lever, and is far less prone to dripping than a washer tap.
Brushed brass is a coated finish, not solid metal, and the brushed texture is more forgiving of water spots than polished chrome — marks tend to disappear into the grain rather than sit on the surface. What it will not tolerate is abrasives: never use a cream cleaner, a scouring pad or a limescale remover on it, because those cut through the coating and the brass tone underneath cannot be restored. A wipe with a soft damp cloth is all it needs.
Pair it with the Ottone wall mounted bath spout for a consistent look across basin and bath.
The rest of the Ottone range
The range also includes a mono basin mixer, a hi-rise version for countertop bowls, a bath filler, a bath shower mixer, a wall mounted bath spout and a freestanding bath shower mixer.
The same tap in other finishes
Ottone is the brushed brass version of a design Kartell also make in polished chrome as Kore and in matt black as Nero Round. Same shapes, same mechanism — the finish is the only difference.
The chrome equivalent is the Kore wall mounted basin mixer and the matt black one is the Nero Round wall mounted basin mixer.
