Kartell K-VIT Plan Pair of Basin Pillar Taps – Chrome (TAP015PL)
The Kartell K-VIT Plan range is round-bodied, round-spouted and quietly contemporary — no sharp edges, no statement styling. Kartell describe it as "a refined look at an affordable price", and the range is unusually complete: nine pieces, including four different ways of getting water into a bath.
This is a pair of basin pillar taps: two separate taps, one hot and one cold, for a basin drilled with two tap holes.
Pillar taps or a mixer?
Pillar taps are the traditional arrangement — two separate taps, no mixing. Hot from one, cold from the other.
Choose them where the basin has two tap holes. If your basin has a single central hole, you want the Plan mono basin mixer instead — and that one includes a waste, which this pair doesn't.
Where pillar taps genuinely win is on a two-hole basin you're keeping. Fitting a mixer would mean replacing the basin, so a pair of taps is both the cheaper swap and the simpler fit.
The honest trade-off: you can't set a temperature at the tap.
What flow will I actually get?
Kartell's data sheet gives these figures, and they are worth reading before you buy:
| Pressure | Flow |
|---|---|
| 0.2 bar | 1.77 l/min |
| 0.5 bar | 2.71 l/min |
| 1.0 bar | 6.27 l/min |
| 2.0 bar | 9.31 l/min |
| 3.0 bar | 12.17 l/min |
Be realistic about low pressure with these. At 0.2 bar you are getting under 2 litres a minute per tap, which is a trickle. They are rated to run at that pressure and they will, but a basin will take a while to fill. From about 1 bar upwards they are perfectly good, and at mains pressure they are generous.
If you are on gravity-fed plumbing and flow matters, the Plan mono basin mixer is the better performer — 8.8 l/min at 1 bar against 6.27 here.
Before you order
These take 1/2" BSP connections, the standard size for basin taps, so on a like-for-like swap they should meet your existing pipework without adaptors. Kartell do not list flexi hoses as supplied, so check what arrives and budget for tails if you need them.
The waste is sold separately.
Size
Each tap stands 107mm tall on a 42mm round base, with the spout reaching 85mm out and sitting 55mm above the basin.
Water pressure
Kartell rate these taps suitable for low water pressure systems, so they work on a gravity-fed tank and cylinder as well as on mains, combi or unvented pressure — with the flow caveat above.
Living with them
The ceramic disc cartridges with quarter-turn operation are far less prone to dripping than traditional washer taps — the usual complaint with separate hot and cold taps.
Polished chrome on a plain round body needs nothing more than a wipe with a soft cloth — there are no corners for limescale to collect in. Avoid abrasive cleaners and don't leave limescale remover to soak.
The rest of the Plan range
The range also includes a mono basin mixer with click waste, a hi-rise mono basin mixer for countertop bowls, a mono bidet mixer, a bath filler, a bath shower mixer, a pair of bath pillar taps, a 4 hole bath shower mixer and a freestanding bath shower mixer.
