The Kartell K-VIT Plan range is round-bodied, round-spouted and quietly contemporary — no sharp edges, no statement styling. Kartell describe it as "a refined look at an affordable price", and the range is unusually complete: nine pieces, including four different ways of getting water into a bath.

This is a pair of bath pillar taps: two separate taps, one hot and one cold, for a bath drilled with two tap holes.

Pillar taps or a filler?

Pillar taps are the traditional arrangement — two separate taps, no mixing. Hot from one, cold from the other, and you balance the temperature in the bath itself.

The Plan bath filler uses the same two holes but joins them into one unit with a single spout, so the water arrives already mixed. It costs a little more.

Where pillar taps genuinely win is on a bath you are keeping and a straight like-for-like swap, or where you simply prefer the look of two separate taps. The honest trade-off is that you cannot set a temperature before the water arrives.

What flow will I actually get?

Kartell's data sheet gives these figures — the same set they publish for the basin pillar taps, which share the same cartridge:

This is the thing to weigh up on a bath. A bath holds roughly 165 litres, and these are two taps running together, so at 1 bar you are looking at around 13 minutes to fill and at 0.2 bar the best part of three quarters of an hour. If you use the bath often and you are on gravity-fed plumbing, the Plan bath filler or bath shower mixer will fill it far quicker — the shower mixer manages 20.8 l/min at 1 bar on its own.

Before you order

These take 3/4" BSP connections, the larger size normally used on bath taps, so on a like-for-like swap they should meet your existing tails. Worth checking, because the basin pillar taps in the same range take the smaller 1/2" — the two are not interchangeable.

The waste is sold separately. A bath needs a waste and overflow set, which is not included. Kartell's data sheet lists a click waste against this pair, but a click waste is a basin fitting rather than a bath one, so treat that as a misprint.

Size

Each tap stands 113mm tall on a 48mm round base, with the spout reaching 88mm out and sitting 58mm above the bath rim.

Water pressure

Kartell rate these taps suitable for low water pressure systems, so they work on a gravity-fed tank and cylinder as well as on mains, combi or unvented pressure — with the fill-time caveat above.

Living with them

The ceramic disc cartridges with quarter-turn operation are far less prone to dripping than traditional washer taps — the usual complaint with separate hot and cold taps.

Polished chrome on a plain round body needs nothing more than a wipe with a soft cloth — there are no corners for limescale to collect in. Avoid abrasive cleaners and don't leave limescale remover to soak.
