The Kartell K-VIT Plan range is round-bodied, round-spouted and quietly contemporary — no sharp edges, no statement styling. Kartell describe it as "a refined look at an affordable price", and the range is unusually complete: nine pieces, including four different ways of getting water into a bath.

This is the bath filler: a deck-mounted tap that sits on the rim of the bath and fills it, with no shower function. Two round lever handles either side of a plain round spout.

Which of the four bath options?

Plan gives you four ways to fill a bath, and the choice comes down to your bath and your plumbing:

• This bath filler — two tap holes, fills only. The simplest and cheapest.
• The bath shower mixer — two tap holes, adds a diverter and handset.
• The 4 hole bath shower mixer — needs a bath drilled for four.
• The freestanding bath shower mixer — floor mounted, for a bath with no tap holes.

There is also a pair of bath pillar taps if you want two separate taps rather than one unit.

Before you order

This is a two tap hole deck-mounted filler, the standard arrangement on most baths.

Bath fillers use 3/4" BSP connections — larger than the 1/2" on basin taps — because a bath needs to fill in reasonable time. Check your existing tails, as swapping between sizes needs adaptors.

The waste is sold separately. A bath needs a waste and overflow set, which is not included — unlike the Plan basin mixer, which comes with a click waste.

Water pressure

Kartell rate this tap suitable for low water pressure systems — it will run from as little as 0.2 bar, so it works on a gravity-fed tank and cylinder as well as on mains, combi or unvented pressure.

On gravity-fed plumbing any bath tap fills slowly. That is the system, not the tap.

Living with it

The ceramic disc cartridge with quarter-turn operation gives full flow from a small movement of the lever, and is far less prone to dripping than a washer tap.

Polished chrome on a plain round body needs nothing more than a wipe with a soft cloth — there are no corners for limescale to collect in. Avoid abrasive cleaners and don't leave limescale remover to soak.
