The Kartell K-VIT Nero Round range is matt black metalwork with soft, rounded forms. This is the concealed thermostatic shower valve with diverter — the two-outlet version.

What the diverter gives you

Two outlets and a control to switch between them — typically a fixed overhead head and a slide rail kit with handset. Rainfall for showering, handset for rinsing, washing hair and cleaning the enclosure.

That's what most people want in a main bathroom. If you only need one outlet, the single outlet valve costs less — but adding a second outlet later means opening the wall.

This has to be planned before you tile

A concealed valve buries the mechanism in the wall, leaving only the control plate on show. The valve body must be set at the right depth and height before boarding and tiling. A stud wall needs noggins to fix to; a solid wall needs chasing out.

Thermostatic and WRAS approved

Holds the temperature you set even if water is drawn elsewhere in the house, and shuts down if the cold supply fails.

It's a WRAS approved product, meeting the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme standard for materials in contact with drinking water — something installers and building control officers ask about.

Living with matt black

Matt black shows limescale and water spotting more than chrome, and a shower valve sits in the wettest place in the house. Wipe it dry after use.

Never use abrasive cleaners or limescale remover — the finish is a coating rather than plating and harsh chemicals will strip it. Warm soapy water and a soft cloth only.

What else you'll need

The valve is the control only. For a two-outlet setup you'll want the fixed head and arm plus either the slide rail kit with a round outlet elbow, or the outlet elbow with wall bracket and handset, which combines outlet and handset in one piece.
