Kartell K-VIT Mirage Mono Basin Mixer Chrome (TAP250MI)

The Kartell K-VIT Mirage range is slim, round and understated — a narrow cylindrical body with a single lever, in polished chrome. It's the range to pick when you want the taps to disappear into the room rather than announce themselves.

This is the mono basin mixer, and it comes complete with a clicker waste.

Light on its feet

At 0.77kg this is one of the lightest basin mixers Kartell make — worth being straight about what that means. Lighter brassware feels less substantial in the hand than something like Klassique at more than double the weight. That isn't a fault at this price and the mechanism is the same ceramic disc cartridge used throughout the range, but if you want a tap that feels weighty when you turn it, Mirage isn't that tap.

What you get instead is a slim profile that suits a small basin or a cloakroom without crowding it.

Water pressure

Suitable for low pressure systems, so it works on gravity-fed plumbing — a tank in the loft and a hot cylinder — as well as combi and mains pressure.

Living with it

The ceramic disc cartridge with quarter-turn operation gives full flow from a small movement of the lever, and is far less prone to dripping than a washer tap.

Polished chrome on a plain round body is the easiest combination to keep clean — no corners for limescale to collect in, and a wipe with a soft cloth is all it needs. Avoid abrasives and don't leave descaler to soak.
