Kartell K-VIT Nero Round Mono Basin Mixer with Click Waste – Matt Black (TAP411NR)

The Kartell K-VIT Nero Round range is a clean, round, minimal collection of brassware in matt black — cylindrical bodies, slim stick levers, no ornamentation. This is the mono basin mixer, and it comes complete with a matching click waste, which is worth noting because a chrome waste in a black basin spoils the effect and buying one separately costs around £25.

Why matt black

Against a white basin, black brassware reads as a deliberate design choice rather than something that blends in. It's the finish to pick if you want the taps to be part of the scheme, and it pairs naturally with black shower valves, black wastes and black-framed screens.

The trade-off is real. Matt black shows limescale and water spotting far more than chrome, particularly in a hard water area — white marks stand out against a dark surface where they'd disappear on a shiny one. It wants wiping dry after use to look its best. If nobody in the house will do that, chrome is the easier life.

Never use abrasive cleaners or limescale remover on matt black. The finish is a coating, not plating, and harsh chemicals will dull or strip it. Warm soapy water and a soft cloth is the whole routine.

Will it work with my water pressure?

Yes. Nero Round is suitable for low pressure systems, so it works on gravity-fed plumbing — a cold tank in the loft and a hot cylinder — as well as on combi and mains pressure.

Living with it

The ceramic disc cartridge with quarter-turn operation gives full flow from a small movement of the lever, and is far less prone to dripping than a washer tap.

The same design in three finishes

Nero Round is the matt black version of a design Kartell also make in polished chrome as the Kore range and brushed brass as Ottone. Within Nero Round there's also a hi-rise version for countertop bowls, a wall mounted basin mixer, a bath filler and a bath shower mixer.
