Kartell K-VIT Times Branch Mono Basin Mixer Chrome (TAP081TI)

The Kartell K-VIT Times range is traditional in spirit but not fussy — crosshead handles marked hot and cold, in polished chrome. This is the branch mono basin mixer.

Branch or standard?

The branch version is the lower, more compact of the two Times basin mixers. The standard Times mono basin mixer has a tall swan-neck spout that swivels; this one sits closer to the basin with a shorter spout.

Choose the branch where a tall tap would look out of proportion — a smaller basin, a cloakroom, or a vanity unit with a mirror or shelf close behind that a high spout would foul. Measure the clearance above your basin before deciding; it's the thing people forget.

The trade-off is the same as any shorter spout: water lands closer to the back of the bowl, and there's less room to get a jug underneath.

Two handles rather than one

Crosshead handles mean you set hot and cold separately, which is slower than a single lever but gives finer control. Some people much prefer it; others find it fiddly with soapy hands.

Water pressure

Suitable for low pressure systems, so it works on gravity-fed plumbing as well as mains pressure — useful in the older properties this style tends to suit.

Living with it

The ceramic disc cartridge with quarter-turn operation gives the period look without the period maintenance — far less chance of a drip than a traditional washer tap.
