Kartell K-VIT Times Mono Basin Mixer Chrome (TAP080TI)

The Kartell K-VIT Times range is traditional in spirit but not fussy — a tall swan-neck spout with two crosshead handles, marked with red and blue rings so it's obvious which is which. It reads more like a period kitchen tap than a modern mixer, which is the point.

This is the mono basin mixer in polished chrome, with a swivel spout.

Who Times suits

It's the range to pick for a traditional or transitional bathroom — a Victorian terrace, a cottage, or a modern room where you want warmth rather than minimalism. Crosshead handles and a high spout look right against a pedestal basin or a roll-top bath in a way that a squared-off single-lever tap doesn't.

The practical difference from a single-lever mixer: two handles means you set hot and cold separately, which is slower but gives finer control. Some people much prefer it; others find it fiddly with soapy hands. Worth knowing which camp you're in before ordering.

The swivel spout

This one is unusual for a basin tap — the spout swivels, so you can move it aside to fill a jug or clean the bowl. Handy on a larger basin, though it does mean the spout can be knocked out of position.

Water pressure

Suitable for low pressure systems, so it works on gravity-fed plumbing — a cold tank in the loft and a hot cylinder — as well as on combi and mains pressure. Useful in the older properties this style tends to suit.

Living with it

The ceramic disc cartridge with quarter-turn operation means full flow from a small movement, and far less chance of a drip than a traditional washer tap — so you get the period look without the period maintenance.

Polished chrome needs nothing more than a wipe with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners and don't leave limescale remover to soak.
