Kartell K-VIT Times Pair Basin Pillar Taps Chrome (TAP084TI)

The Kartell K-VIT Times range is traditional in spirit but not fussy — crosshead handles marked hot and cold, in polished chrome. This is a pair of basin pillar taps: two separate taps, one hot and one cold.

Pillar taps or a mixer?

Pillar taps are the traditional arrangement — two separate taps, no mixing. Hot from one, cold from the other.

Choose them where the basin has two tap holes, which is common on older basins and on period-style pedestal designs. If your basin has a single central hole, you want the Times mono basin mixer or the more compact branch version instead.

On a traditional bathroom, pillar taps are also the historically correct choice — a period basin was never designed for a mixer, and crossheads either side of the bowl look right in a way a single spout doesn't.

The honest trade-off: you can't set a temperature. It's hot or cold or a hand under each. That's how basins worked for a century, but it's less convenient than a mixer, and worth being sure about before you commit.

Before you order

Check your basin has two tap holes at standard centres, and that there's room either side of the bowl for the handles to turn.

The waste is sold separately.

Water pressure

Suitable for low pressure systems, so they work on gravity-fed plumbing as well as mains pressure — useful in the older properties this style tends to suit.

Living with them

The ceramic disc cartridges with quarter-turn operation give the period look without the period maintenance. Traditional pillar taps were the classic dripper; these shouldn't be.
